North Platte women top MCC 56-38


The North Platte Community College women picked up a 56-38 win over McCook Community College Tuesday.

MCC was unable to overcome a cold start offensively and turned the ball over 28 times.

Tuesday’s win by North Platte moves the Knights into a first-place tie with MCC in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference. Both teams are 4-1 in the conference and both teams have one game remaining against Southeast Community College, 0-3 in the conference and 6-22 overall.

MCC scored just three points in the first quarter and trailed 8-3 after 10 minutes and 20-12 at halftime.

North Platte outscored MCC 16-13 in the third quarter and 20-13 in the final stanza.

MCC shot 33.3 percent from the field, made three of 13 shots from the 3-point line, and went seven of 12 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Audra Vine (Thornton, Colo.) led MCC with 15 points. Gemma Gruettner Bacoul (Berlin, Germany) was the top MCC rebounder with seven boards. Bacoul and Suzan Sisman (sophomore, Aarhus, Denmark) both scored six points.

North Platte shot 31.5 percent from the field, made six of 12 shots from distance (50 percent), and made 16 of 19 free throws (84.2 percent). The Knights outrebounded MCC 35-32.

North Platte improves to 14-9 overall.

MCC goes to 14-12.

The Lady Indians are home Friday for a 5:30 p.m. Region IX South game against Western Nebraska. MCC is 3-4 in the Region IX South standings, Western Nebraska is 4-3 in region play and 20-6 overall.
