MCC taking applications for summer volleyball camps

The McCook Community College volleyball program has set summer camp dates and is bringing in guest coach for seventh through 12th graders.

There are seven age levels for camps this year and they will be starting earlier this year – May 29-June 1 – as well as the senior showcase and a setting, hitting and defense camp June 1 with Jordan Willis, Coach at Florida Tech.

MCC Volleyball Coach Hayley Kobza is bringing in Willis for the setting, hitting and defense camp. He was a four-year starting setter at St. Mary's College in California before stepping into his coaching career. He served as an assistant Texas A&M-Kingsville, then to Colorado State-Pueblo, before taking over head coaching duties at Otero Junior College for five years. From there he moved on to Davis & Elkins and now currently at Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla.

“He has had great success and will be an awesome addition to this year's setting camp.”

That June 1 camp is open to players in grades 7-12, and will go from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $120. The hitting and defense camp is set for June 1 from 1-3 p.m. with a cost of $40.

Under Kobza’s leadership she has won five NCCAC titles, while earning five NCCAC Coach of the Year honors. Additionally, Kobza has helped 35 players continue their playing careers at the next level.

She will be assisted by Genevieve Hopkinson, who played volleyball at MCC under Kobza and is in her first year as the assistant coach.
