MCC signs pair of South African golf buddies for fall season
Two golfing buddies from South Africa, recruited separately by McCook Community College, have signed their letter of intent to golf for the Indians this fall according to Coach Tyler Loop.
Ethan Gough and Brayden Dahl have both signed on to continue their golf careers at MCC.
“I recruited them separately but came to find out later they are very good friends and both committed at the same time,” Loop said. According to the coach, it will be an advantage for the team and these players mentally to have someone familiar to begin their freshmen year together.
“It is never easy traveling this far to a place you've never been and not knowing anyone,” he said.
Gough is 5-8, 160 pounds, and who graduated from Maritzburg College in last month. He was selected to the Provincial A Team for South Africa Schools, carries a 74.5 scoring average with a low tournament score of five-under 67 at the 2019 KZN Interclub Tournament. He said his best golfing memory was winning the 2019 Bridge Fund Series Royal Durban by three shots.
Dahl is 5-9, 175 pounds and graduated in December from Kearsney College. He has a 75 scoring average with a low tournament score of 70. He was selected to both the Provincial Team and the KwanZulu-Natal Schools team. His resume includes a first place finish in the Kearsney College Stroke Play Championship.
Both players are very familiar with team golf in South Africa and according to Loop, both are determined and winning golfers.
“These guys can play really good golf consistently and we are very excited to have them join our team in the fall of 2021,” Loop said.
