MCC’s Blake Dale earns region’s player of the week award


McCook Community College sophomore infielder Blake Dale has been named Region IX Player of the Week.

In MCC’s six games between March 18-24, Dale had 10 hits in 21 at bats (a .476 batting average) with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, eight runs scored and 10 RBIs. Those numbers include MCC’s 3-1 series win at home over the weekend against Lamar Community College.

Dale, of Riverton, Wyo., has taken over at shortstop this season. He is batting .319 in 22 games with four doubles, a triple and a team-best five home runs. He is also tied for the team lead with 20 RBIs. He has a .375 on-base average and a .611 slugging mark.

Northeastern Junior College’s Sage Ferguson is the region’s pitcher of the week. He took a perfect game into the sixth inning against Trinidad and finished with 6 innings, no runs, one hit, one walk and a single-game NJC record for strikeouts with 13.

MCC had its Tuesday games at Hastings College JV postponed by snow. Those teams will make up that game April 22 in Hastings with nine-inning game.

The Indians will host Otero Junior College in a four-game series this weekend. Depending on field conditions doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday start at 1 p.m. MCC is 3-1 in Region IX play (second behind Western Nebraska’s 4-0) and 8-14 overall. Otero is tied for third in the region with four other teams at 2-2. The Rattlers are 10-7 overall.
